Professional women to be awarded at this year’s Ruby Awards

(Reno, Nev. March 12, 2014)—Soroptimist International of Truckee Meadows (SITM) is accepting nominations for this year’s Ruby Award. The Ruby Award honors a local woman who is improving the lives of other women and girls. Previous winners have helped create a better home life for foster children enabled women to leave abusive relationships and provided other life-changing aid for women and girls. The award ceremony will be held on March 27 at 11:30 a.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the Atlantis Casino Resort.  

“Soroptimist mission is to improve the lives of women and children, especially girls, and the Ruby Award recognizes someone in our community who has fostered that mission statement of benefitting women and children,” said Jo Ann Roberts, a long-time member of SITM.

Patty Downs, another active SITM member and apart of the Ruby Awards committee, said, “The Soroptimist Ruby Award honors women who, through their professional or personal efforts, are making extraordinary differences in the lives of women or girls.”

Nominations are open to the public and are available on SITM’s website under “Scholarships”. Local winners can receive up to $1000 for a charity of her choice based on her own work improving the lives of women and girls. The Ruby Award winner will then go to the federal level and could win up to $5,000.
